RIP: ‘Always a story to tell’- Tributes paid to popular Kilkenny man well-known in his community

James was in his 93rd year and died surrounded by his loving family on 8th March 2025.

James will be sadly missed by his sons Seamus, Noel and Liam, grandchildren Caoimhe, Hollie, Ciarán, Áine, Brian and Shane, daughters-in-law Treasa, Olivia and Bridget, Brother-in-law Willie O’Keeffe, sister-in-law Maura O’Neil, nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and good neighbours.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered James, with one mourner writing,

“Sincere sympathy to Noel Liam and Shem on the passing of your Dad. Fond memories of Uncle James over the years always taking the time to visit us in knockbrack and always a story to tell . He will be forever missed . Rest in peace James.”

Another message said, “Our sincere condolences on the passing of your dear dad he was a gentleman and a fantastic dancer i used to love dancing with him in the long man we had great nights there, may his gentle soul rest in peace .”

“So sorry to hear of James’ passing, an absolute gentleman with great stories he told. He loved the banter and always had a smile when ever I bumped into him down town, R.I.P James one of life’s true gents,” another tribute said.

 

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS:

Reposing in the Mercy Side Chapel, Church of the Assumption Thomastown from 5pm on Monday, Concluding with prayers at 7pm. Requiem Mass on Tuesday in the main Chapel at 11am followed by burial in St Mary’s New cemetery Thomastown Co Kilkenny.
