Ansley Burns, a 12-year-old girl from South Carolina, left the judges of America’s Got Talent in awe with her powerful rendition of an Aretha Franklin classic.
A seventh-grader who often sings in her school choir, Ansley chose to perform Franklin’s “Think” during a preview for Tuesday’s show.
However, head judge Simon Cowell interrupted her performance, feeling that the backing track didn’t complement her voice. Initially uncertain, Ansley was encouraged by Simon’s suggestion to sing a cappella instead.
Simon even offered her a cup of water as a gesture of support. With the judges and audience cheering her on, Ansley found the courage to continue without the music.
